NBC Sports Outdoors

The Best & Worst of Tred Barta is officially the network’s longest running Original Series. Tred’s been doing it the Barta Way since he first hit the air in 2004. The Hard Way took on a new twist after his accident but nothing can keep old rollin’ thunder down. He’s still making his own arrows, hunting the back-country, wiring fish and setting light tackle records; only now he’s doing it from a wheelchair.

Tred has become a member of the family here at the network and he’s a true inspiration to his audience. We’re proud to have him call the newly minted NBC Sports Network home as he heads into season 9 in 2012.

Director, Field Sports Programming

Our show “The Best and Worst of Tred Barta” returns in 2012 with brand new fishing episodes , starting , Thursdays, January 5th at 7pm EST.
We are now in our 8th season with NBC Sports Outdoors, having filmed 67 some shows, 25 of which have been made since Tred’s paralysis.
TV is a tough business, and based on ratings, when Tred’s medical issues arose, most networks probably would not have wanted to take the risk and would have dropped the show. It says volumes about the people at Versus/NBC, that they stuck with us. Tred had a conversation with Jeff Macaluso, Director of Field Sports who said: take your time, get your issues handled, we’re with you, Tred,
We are forever grateful to the network for sticking with us.

We are now in the midst of filming our 8th season. The show itself has taken on a new character, it not only stays true to its reality show roots, but has also now become a show of inspiration: how you overcome a major medical issue and get back to living a rewarding life. Tred has retained his unique style, and cantankerous attitude, and unique sense of humor.

"I met Tred originally because I wanted to learn how to fish the north east canyons. Tred agreed to meet and almost immediately we connected through our shared interests, our insatiable zest for life and a passion, no an obsession for blue water fishing. All of this happened in about 15 minutes at the Hampton Bays Diner, on eastern Long Island over a shared tuna fish sandwich. Five minutes later we created “the Best & Worst of Tred Barta” TV series concept and the rest as they say is history! When you know what you want in life and your relationship and dealings are built on trust, honesty and integrity, you generally can't go wrong, and we haven't for the last 10 years!!"
